Company Overview

Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE: HE) is a Hawaii-based holding company whose principal business is providing electric utility service across the state. Through its regulated utility subsidiaries—Hawaiian Electric Company, Maui Electric Company and Hawaii Electric Light—the company generates, purchases, transmits, distributes and sells electricity to residential, commercial and industrial customers on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii.

The utility uses a combination of renewable and conventional energy resources and supports Hawaii’s transition toward a cleaner electric system. Its operations include maintaining electric infrastructure, integrating customer- and utility-scale renewable generation, and providing related grid and energy services. The company serves some of the state’s largest population centers as well as more rural island communities.

HEI has roots dating to the formation of Hawaiian Electric in 1891 and became a holding company in the 1980s. In addition to its electric utility operations, the company has historically owned American Savings Bank, which provides consumer and commercial banking services in Hawaii. The utility is led by Shelee Kimura, president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Electric, while Scott Seu serves as president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Electric Industries.
