Standard Chartered traces its history to the formation of Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China in 1853 and the Standard Bank of British South Africa in 1862. The two institutions merged in 1969 to create Standard Chartered. The group is led by Group Chief Executive Bill Winters, who has served in that role since 2015.
