About Target

Target (NYSE:TGT) (NYSE: TGT) is a U.S.-based general merchandise retailer headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The company operates a network of full-line and small-format stores across the United States alongside a national e-commerce platform and mobile app. Target’s retail assortment spans apparel, home goods, electronics, groceries and household essentials, plus beauty, baby and pet categories. The firm complements national brands with a portfolio of owned and exclusive labels and partnerships that help differentiate its merchandise assortment.

Target traces its roots to the Dayton Company, founded by George Dayton in 1902; the Target discount chain was launched in 1962 and the parent company later adopted the Target Corporation name. Over time Target has expanded its store formats and fulfillment capabilities to support an omnichannel model that combines in-store shopping with digital ordering, curbside pickup, and same-day delivery. The company has pursued initiatives such as third-party marketplace programs and acquisitions—most notably the 2017 purchase of same-day delivery service Shipt—to broaden its service offerings and accelerate digital fulfillment.

Target’s operations are focused on the U.S. market, serving customers through physical locations, distribution centers and online channels. The company emphasizes a combination of curated product design, private-label brands, guest experience and convenience services. Since 2014 it has been led by CEO Brian Cornell, who has overseen efforts to modernize merchandising, expand private brands and invest in technology and supply-chain capabilities to support an integrated retail experience.
