Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores (NYSE:AVAL) is a Colombian financial holding company with interests in banking, investment banking, pension and severance-fund administration, and other financial services. The company operates primarily through affiliated institutions rather than serving customers under a single Grupo Aval banking brand.
Its principal Colombian banking subsidiaries include Banco de Bogotá, Banco de Occidente, Banco Popular, and Banco AV Villas. Through these institutions, the group provides commercial and consumer banking, corporate lending, mortgages, credit cards, payments, leasing, and other financial products. Its financial-services portfolio also includes Porvenir, a pension and severance-fund administrator, and Corficolombiana, which provides investment banking, corporate finance, and infrastructure-related services.
Grupo Aval and its affiliates serve customers in Colombia and, through Banco de Bogotá’s international operations and related holdings, several Central American markets. The company was founded by Colombian businessman Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo and has historically been controlled by the Sarmiento family. Luis Carlos Sarmiento Gutiérrez has served as the group’s president. Grupo Aval’s American depositary receipts trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AVAL.
