Through its principal subsidiary, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), it generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity to customers in Florida. Through NextEra Energy Resources, the company develops, owns and operates power-generation and storage projects in the United States and Canada. Its portfolio includes wind, solar, natural gas, nuclear and other energy resources, along with battery storage and related transmission infrastructure. NextEra Energy Resources also provides energy-related products and services to utilities, municipalities, commercial customers and other organizations.

The company traces its history to Florida Power & Light, which began operations in 1925.
