Key Points

  • Guidewire is expanding its AI opportunity beyond core insurance software, targeting separate $30 billion markets in AI-enabled claims operations and underwriting. Its planned acquisition of hyperexponential, valued at $1.7 billion upfront plus a potential $400 million earn-out, adds commercial-insurance pricing and rating capabilities.
  • The company continues to prioritize cloud migration, customer expansion and international growth, with reported improvements in migration and implementation speed. Key geographic targets include Japan, Germany, France and the London market, while its analytics initiative can draw on anonymized data tied to more than $320 billion in premiums.
  • Guidewire raised its outlook, now expecting roughly 18%–19% three-year ARR growth through fiscal 2028, up from its prior 17%–18% framework. Management also believes it can sustain upper-teens organic growth through $3 billion in ARR, excluding hyperexponential.

Guidewire Software NYSE: GWRE said at its analyst day that it is pursuing a broader opportunity in artificial intelligence-driven underwriting and claims operations, highlighting its planned acquisition of hyperexponential and outlining growth initiatives across cloud migrations, commercial insurance, analytics and international markets.

Chief Executive Officer Mike Rosenbaum said Guidewire has spent 25 years serving property-and-casualty insurers with core software systems for policy administration, billing and claims. The company serves 500 customers in 44 countries, including nine of the world’s largest insurers by direct written premium, and reported $1.6 billion in fully ramped annual recurring revenue.

Rosenbaum described Guidewire’s cloud platform as a way for insurers to keep core systems current and receive ongoing innovation. He said the company sees artificial intelligence as an accelerator for software development, underwriting and claims handling, particularly because insurers must process substantial amounts of unstructured information.

AI opportunity and hyperexponential acquisition

Guidewire estimates a $30 billion total addressable market for core insurance technology, based on roughly 1% of the industry’s direct written premium. Rosenbaum said the company also sees separate $30 billion opportunities in AI-enabled claims operations and underwriting.

In claims, he said AI could support better customer experiences, operational efficiency and loss control. In underwriting, Guidewire sees an opportunity to help insurers price risk more effectively and make more profitable decisions.

As part of that strategy, Guidewire announced its intention to acquire hyperexponential, a provider of pricing and rating technology focused on commercial and specialty insurance. Hyperexponential Chief Executive Officer Amrit Santhirasenan said the company was founded to apply cloud technology to insurance pricing and rating, drawing on his experience as both a software engineer and pricing actuary.

Santhirasenan said agentic AI could shift more work from human users to software agents, while requiring a framework and controls for underwriting decisions. He also emphasized the cultural alignment he sees between hyperexponential and Guidewire.

Chief Financial Officer Jeff Cooper said the transaction includes $1.7 billion paid upfront and a potential $400 million earn-out over three years. Guidewire initially plans to finance the purchase with a $1 billion term loan and cash on its balance sheet. Cooper said the transaction is expected to close during the company’s second fiscal quarter and has no financing contingency.

Cooper said hyperexponential is expected to add about 650 basis points to Guidewire’s fiscal 2027 ARR growth rate on an inorganic basis, while contributing an additional 150 basis points to Guidewire’s internal organic growth plan. He characterized hyperexponential as slightly cash-flow positive and slightly operating-margin negative at the time of acquisition.

Cloud migration, customer expansion and international focus

President John Mullen said the company continues to post strong win rates and is expanding its presence among both large insurers and smaller carriers, managing general agents and tier-four insurers. Guidewire’s top 10 customers recorded 21% three-year compound annual growth in premium and scope, while fully ramped ARR from those customers increased 28%, he said.

Mullen also pointed to a 30% increase in the number of customers representing at least $5 million in fully ramped ARR. He said these larger customers are positioned to adopt Guidewire’s expanding AI capabilities because they value continuity across a shared platform.

The company identified Japan, Germany, France and the London market as geographic areas of focus. Mullen said Guidewire is building country-specific and line-of-business-specific content through its platform extension layer.

Guidewire also highlighted its Kaleidoscope analytics initiative, which Mullen said can enable insurers to train models using anonymized data. The company has rights to analyze more than $320 billion in premium flowing through its systems, according to Mullen.

On implementation speed, Mullen said Guidewire has seen 40% to 50% faster on-premises-to-cloud migrations in certain use cases. The company has also seen 35% to 45% improvements in speed to market for net-new implementations, he said.

Customers discuss cloud and AI adoption

Customer speakers described how they are using Guidewire Cloud and AI-related tools. Paige Vincent, chief operating officer at Australian insurer Hollard, said the company has moved its claims operations to ClaimCenter in the cloud and is preparing to deploy ProNavigator and Claim Summarization to frontline employees.

Vincent said the tools could help employees respond more consistently to vulnerable customers and reduce reliance on highly specialized staff. She also cited governance, auditability and control benefits from using AI within the Guidewire platform.

Dan Wuest, senior vice president of products engineering and architecture at CNA Insurance, said CNA’s move from self-managed Guidewire software to the cloud has reduced development costs and accelerated product, digital and interoperability initiatives. He said AI-enabled development tools are shifting bottlenecks from engineering into product-management processes.

Nitin Jain, vice president of digital transformation at Donegal Insurance Group, said Donegal is migrating its full Guidewire suite to the cloud while implementing ProNavigator for ClaimCenter. He said the carrier chose Guidewire’s cloud and AI roadmap partly because it allows underwriters and claims adjusters to use AI capabilities within the systems where they already work.

Financial outlook

Cooper said Guidewire’s cloud ARR has grown 37% over the past six years. The company reported 28 ProNavigator deals and 13 PricingCenter deals last year, which he said demonstrate growing traction for newer product areas.

Guidewire said it is tracking ahead of several fiscal 2028 objectives. Cooper said the company now expects a three-year ARR compound annual growth rate through fiscal 2028 closer to 18% to 19%, compared with the prior 17% to 18% framework. He said subscription and support gross margins are already above the company’s stated fiscal 2028 target range.

Looking further ahead, Cooper said Guidewire believes it can sustain an upper-teens growth algorithm through $3 billion in ARR on an organic basis, excluding the planned hyperexponential acquisition.
