About Dollar General

Dollar General (NYSE:DG) is a U.S.-based variety and discount retailer operating a large network of small-format stores that serve primarily rural and suburban communities. The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DG and is headquartered in the Nashville/Goodlettsville, Tennessee area. Founded in 1939, Dollar General has grown from a regional operation into one of the nation’s prominent low-price retailers focused on convenience and value.

Dollar General’s stores offer a wide assortment of everyday consumables and household goods, including food and beverage items, cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, paper goods, apparel basics, seasonal merchandise and small household items. The company also operates larger-format Dollar General Market stores that emphasize grocery assortments. A significant portion of the assortment is supplied through private-label brands designed to deliver value and drive customer loyalty.

The business model centers on a compact store footprint, low operating costs and a dense distribution network to support rapid replenishment and broad geographic coverage in underserved locations. Dollar General combines in-store merchandising with digital tools for promotions and coupons to attract price-conscious shoppers. Its operating infrastructure includes regional distribution centers and logistics systems intended to keep inventory flowing to thousands of local outlets.

Originally founded by J.L. Turner and his son Cal Turner, the company has a long history of incremental expansion and adaptation to consumer needs. Today Dollar General is managed by an executive leadership team and board of directors that oversee strategy, store growth, merchandising and supply-chain investments aimed at maintaining the retailer’s value-oriented positioning and reach into small-town and suburban markets across the United States.
