(DP&L) subsidiary, and the Competitive Retail segment, comprised of its DPL Energy Resources, Inc. (DPLER) subsidiary and DPLER's subsidiary, MC Squared, LLC. DP&L is engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in West Central Ohio. DPLER sells retail electric service, under contract, to residential, commercial, industrial and governmental customers. DPL's other subsidiaries include DPL Energy, LLC (DPLE), which owns and operates peaking generating facilities, from which it makes wholesale sales of electricity and Miami Valley Insurance Company (MVIC), DPL's captive insurance company that provides insurance services to the Company and DPL's other subsidiaries. On November 28, 2011, DPL was acquired by The AES Corporation (AES) and is a wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of AES.
